#20: Help Me, Doctor!
The average American spends over $4,000 a year on healthcare costs. And that’s not even counting the cost of insurance premiums or deductibles. In fact, medical debt is a leading cause of bankruptcy in the US, with over 62% of all bankruptcies being caused by medical bills. And even if you have insurance, you’re not necessarily in the clear.
A recent survey found that one in four insured Americans has trouble paying their medical bills. It’s not hard to see why – the cost of prescription drugs alone has risen over 33% in the past decade. But don’t worry – at least we have free hospital gowns to look forward to.
