Talk About Irresponsibility
Getting asked to cover extra shifts at work is common in many workplaces. Sometimes, due to unforeseen circumstances like illness or personal commitments, employees may need to request shift swaps. When handled responsibly and with proper communication, such situations can usually be managed smoothly.
In this case, it’s important to recognize that the responsibility for the last-minute shift change does not fall entirely on the employee. Expecting an employee to work a surprise shift the next day after receiving a 3:30 am text is unreasonable. Like anyone else, employees need rest, and adjusting to such last-minute changes can be challenging. Management must communicate and plan these changes more thoughtfully to avoid unnecessary frustration or resentment among employees.
