When you’re not well-acquainted with your upstairs neighbors and are hesitant to approach them directly, there’s always the option of using passive-aggressive signs. You don’t need to outright label your neighbors as inconsiderate; instead, you can allude to their “favorite pair of shoes” (meaning they’re too noisy!), and that might just do the trick.
