Feline Folklore and Babies
Throughout history, numerous superstitions and urban legends have emerged concerning the relationship between cats and babies. Among the most enduring and peculiar tales is the belief that cats can steal a baby’s breath, endangering their lives. This myth likely originates from a fear of the unfamiliar, as cats are known for their inquisitive nature and tendency to approach infants.
In reality, most cats harbor no ill intentions toward babies and certainly do not possess any mystical powers. Nonetheless, these legends persist, fostering unnecessary worries and even bias against cats in households with infants. For instance, one individual recounted how her cats were apprehensive around her newborn baby and avoided any interaction with her.
